4-Year-Old Musings

Every time we drive by the local cemetary, Lucia points out the window and says, "look, Rhea, THAT'S where people DIE!" Now Rhea has taken up this habit: "Look, dat's where people DIE, wight, Mom?"
So yesterday I set the record straight: No, that's not where people die. They die somewhere else, and when they are already dead, this is where they are buried. The dead person is put in a grave, which is a hole in the ground, and then they put up a tombstone with the person's name on it, and the birth date, and the day he or she died.

Lucia: "Mama, what happens if they forget to put the stone on it?"

M: "Nothing, but they don't forget."

Lucia: "Because if they forgot, then you would fall in the hole and see a person's x-ray!"
