The last post reminded me of a recent church service that Lucia sat in with us. For some reason that Sunday she asked to come to big church with us as opposed to going to her class, which we don't mind. So she happened to witness communion being served. It had been a while since the last time she saw communion, so she had lots of comments.
L: "Mama, who is that up there?"
M: "That's the pastor." (... who then called the ushers to come up front to serve communion.)
L: "Look, Mama, there are lots more pastors coming."
M (smiling): "No, those are ushers. They are helpers and are going to bring us communion."
L (observing the basket of bread, which seemed identical to Ritz crackers): "When are you going to eat that?"
M: "When the pastor says we're ready."
L (when I was eating it): "Crunchy, isn't it?"
a few seconds later ... L: "When's the juice-blood coming?"
M: "In a little bit."
L: "Is it coming now?"
L: "Now is it coming?" etc
Thankfully, most of her comments where quiet, so it was a good opportunity to talk a little about the meaning of communion and Easter. :) A child's perspective is so refreshing sometimes, and it really helps when you're trying to take yourself too seriously.
