(I posted the following on Facebook the day before her birthday:
I was just teasing Rhea about her birthday tomorrow, saying that I think we should just pretend she'll be turning 4 instead of 5, because I'm sad that she's getting so big, and, "What if I put only 4 candles on your cake?"
R, very serious and upset: "Mom, you will NOT be invited to my birthday party if you act like that! I'm SERIOUS! No more talking about 4 stuff. Tomorrow, on my birthday, we can only talk about 5 stuff!" ... followed by a big "humph!" :-) )
So... she was serious about turning 5, and the day just couldn't come soon enough!
She was the second girlie up (hard to beat Alexa these days), and was greeted by the decorated kitchen.
Per Rhea's request, we started the day out with cinnamon rolls. I got up a little early to get the dough going (just wasn't able to add that in the night before), and they were hot out of the oven by 8:15. (Too hot to stick a candle (or 5) into, so a party umbrella had to do. :-) )
Unfortunately, David had to leave early for work (after having gone to class on Wed night and Thursday night), so he didn't even get to see Rhea until her party at 4:00. Rhea got to open some of her presents right away, and we saved some for the party so David could watch her open a few, too.
Here she opened a birthday card from Oma and Opa, which had a little ring taped inside it (that I used to wear a long, loooooong time ago. ;-) ) The picture says it all: She thought it was SO special!

Opening the gift from Lucia... a Hello Kitty Lego set.
A neat book from Grandma and Grandpa Skinner. Thank you for thinking of all your great-grandkids so faithfully! We're looking forward to using this book... the girls thought it was the BEST, because it lets you talk "about stuff AFTER YOU GO TO BED!!!!" :-)
Here the girls are watching and rewatching and rewatching a cute e-birthday card Grandma and Grandpa sent for Rhea. :-)
Then Sara, a girl from Germany who is visiting us for 6 weeks and just arrived two days earlier, read the original story of Cinderella to the girls, while I was able to continue some party preparations. (Man... it's great to have someone else in the house who enjoys spending time with the kids... :-) )
Soon it was time for Rhea's big birthday bash at the local outdoor pool/water park! Thankfully, David was able to leave work early to be part of it and celebrate his girlie a little, too!
Sadly, this week we've been having almost arctic temperatures (for Texas summer standards). Friday it was just starting to warm up a little again, but still very much on the frigid side. I didn't even get my swim suit on.

Holding up the favors. See the life savers tied on there? ... Get it? Pool party... life savers? ;-) (And no, that was not my original idea. The internet's creativity served as my inspiration. ;-) )
We had to sing "Happy Birthday" really fast, because the wind was about to blow out Rhea's candles!
The two other snacks aside from the cake: Goldfish and "Sand" pudding (in layers), served in buckets with shovels. :-)
Mmmmh!
Snorkeling juice boxes. (The girls got those ready for me; great craft/activity/kid occupier all in one. :-) )
